Me and Homi Bhabha This was originally written on 26 May 2006. I've just discovered my face on the corner of this picture in the CIS website! It was my candid camera moment, and the photographer must be my supervisor..... Well, I saw him carrying his little camera around but I did not think of him taking this photograph of me! I was asking Homi if he could sign me an autograph in my 'The Location of Culture' book by him. He said of course. Then I fumbled through my stuffs in my handbag, and gosh... I only found my pink, glitter pen! I turned to Homi and said...I only got the pink one. Homi gave me a weird look, and I thought this was my Elle Wood moment. The pink pen did not produce any ink so I got to find another pen, and it seemed I only got a purple one left (also in glitter).... And it didn't work either. Homi grumbled "They have enough money to send you to study here, but you haven't got enough money for a decent pen!" Ha Ha.... shame on me. Finally I managed to pick up my last pen which was also in purple, but lucky enough not a glitter one. He then gave me a worm-like autograph. รู้จัก Said และ Saidian ถาม ทำไมถึงใช้ชื่อว่า Sa-idian ตอบ มาจาก Edward W. Said นักคิดทฤษฎีตะวันออกนิยม Orientalism ซึ่งเป็นทฤษฎีที่มีอิทธิพลมากที่สุดทฤษฎีหนึ่งในศตวรรษที่ 20 เราทำวิทยานิพนธ์ปริญญาโทและเอกโดยใช้ทฤษฏีของ Said เลยเรียกตัวเองว่าเป็นพวก Saidian (หรือ Sa-idian เพื่อให้อ่านว่าซา-อิด-เดียน) ถาม ทำไมถึงประทับใจ Said ตอบ เพราะคำถามหนึ่งที่เรามีอยู่ในใจมาตลอดคือ "ทำไมตะวันตกถึงมีภาพบางอย่างเกี่ยวกับตะวันออกตลอดเวลา" เช่น ทำไมในหนังเกี่ยวกับประเทศไทย เช่น The Beach หรือแม้แต่ Bridget Jones 2 ภาพของประเทศไทยถึงเป็นภาพของสถานที่ที่คนตะวันตกสามารถมา let loose หรือใช้ชีวิตแบบหย่อนๆ สบายๆ รวมไปถึงใช้ยาเสพติดเพื่อสร้างมายาภาพ หลุดจากความจริงที่เต็มไปด้วยกฏเกณฑ์ ซึ่งภาพเหล่านี้จะหาไม่ได้ในภาพเมืองใหญ่ๆ อย่างลอนดอน นิวยอร์ค ที่ผู้คนแข่งขันกันในทุกด้านตามจังหวะชีวิตที่รวดเร็ว Said ได้พิสูจน์ให้เห็นว่าภาพหรือวาทกรรมเกี่ยวกับโลกตะวันออกเป็นสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นอย่างมีระบบ มีการถ่ายทอดซ้ำ รวบรวม และเรียบเรียง จนกลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในความคิดความเชื่อของคนตะวันตก ถาม พูดเรื่องงานวิจัยหน่อย ตอบ งานวิจัยตอนนี้คือศึกษาเรื่องบทบาทของงานแปลในทฤษฎี Orientalism ของ Said เพราะ Said ค่อนข้างจะพูดถึงการแปลน้อย และไม่ได้อธิบายว่าบทบาทของการแปลสำคัญอย่างไรต่อการสร้างวาทกรรมตะวันออกนิยม โดยงานวิจัยนี้ เราใช้ข้อมูลจากการศึกษาวรรณคดีสันสกฤตสองเรื่องคือ ภควัตคีตา และศกุนตลา   Create Date : 02 พฤษภาคม 2550     5 comment Last Update : 2 พฤษภาคม 2550 17:48:36 น.     Counter : 949 Pageviews.   Share Tweet
