Sidney Lumet was one of my teachers at the High School of Performing Arts when I was a Drama Major. He was a thoughtful, insightful, and thoroughly masterful teacher. He was genuinely interested in the progress of his students both as actors and as human beings. His work in films is among the best of my generation. Even though I went on to have a full career as a dancer, a choreographer, and as a teacher of dance, the principles that I learned from him have been an essential part of my work. He will be missed -Norman WalkerTucson, AZApril 9th, 20111:15 pm
My husband acted under the direction of Mr. Lumet on one episode of 100 Centre St. He cherishes that job as one of the most rewarding of his career mainly because of the atmosphere Mr. Lumet created on the set. He was not only respectful of actors (a true rarity among directors), he was generous, brilliant, fun to be around, energetic and wise. He was a man with an open soul, whose endless compassion for the common man was the stuff his art was made of. Watching his films made better people of us all. -Joanna StellingNew JerseyApril 9th, 20111:16 pm
