Participial construction Participial construction เป็นการลดทอนรูปประโยคจาก complex sentence เป็น simple sentence การลดทอนรูปประโยคทำได้โดยตัด clause (ประโยคย่อย) ออกไป ซึ่งประโยคย่อยดังกล่าวมี 2 รูปแบบ 1. Relative clause มี relative pronoun เป็น subject 2. Subordinate clause แสดงเวลา สาเหตุ เงื่อนไขหรือความขัดแย้ง โดยทำได้ 4 กรณี กรณีที่ 1 และ 2 ใช้กับ Present/Past simple กรณีที่ 3 และ 4 ใช้กับ Present/Past perfect ตัวอย่างของ Participial construction กรณีลดทอน Relative clause Children who were born in Thailand are Thai citizens. ส่วนที่ขีดเส้นใต้เป็น relative clause (past simple) ในรูป passive voice ขยาย Children ดังนั้นเราจะตัดออก Children who were born in Thailand are Thai citizens. = Children born in Thailand are Thai cizitens. Employees who work on Saturday will get additional pay. ส่วนที่ขีดเส้นใต้เป็น relative clause (present simple) ในรูป active voice ขยาย Employees เราจะตัดออกและเปลี่ยนรูป V เป็น V ing Employees who work on Saturday will get additional pay. = Employees working on Saturday will get additional pay. The boy who had been kidnapped was found by the police three weeks later. ส่วนที่ขีดเส้นใต้เป็น relative clause (past perfect) ในรูป passive voice ขยาย The boy ดังนั้นเราจะตัดออกและเปลี่ยนรูป V เป็น having been+V3 The boy who had been kidnapped was found by the police three weeks later. = The boy having been kidnapped was found by the police three weeks later. The students who have finished the test are allowed to leave the examination room. ส่วนที่ขีดเส้นใต้เป็น relative clause (present perfect) ในรูป active voice ขยาย The students ดังนั้นเราจะตัดออกและเปลี่ยนรูป V เป็น having+V3 The students who have finished the test are allowed to leave the examination room. = The students having finished the test are allowed to leave the examination room. ตัวอย่างของ Participial construction กรณีลดทอน subordinate clause Because Agatha was pleased with Jonathan's praise, she gave him a kiss. ต้องตัด Because ซึ่งเป็น conj. บ่งบอก subordinate cause ออกพร้อมเปลี่ยนรูป V Because Agatha was pleased with Jonathan's praise, she gave him a kiss. = Agatha pleased with Jonathan's praise gave him a kiss. ประโยคนี้ไม่ค่อยสวยเท่าไรเนอะ ^^ While he was walking through the bridge, Erik saw the body near the banks of river. ตัด While ซึ่งเป็น conj. บ่งบอก subordinate cause ออกพร้อมเปลี่ยนรูป V While he was walking througth the bridge, Erik saw the body near the banks of river. = Walking through the bridge, Erik saw the body near the banks of river.
