Barcelona 2 : 1 Boca Juniors [[ Joan Gamper Trophy @ Camp Nou ]]
Barcelona 2-1 Boca Juniors
Barcelona mounted a stunning injury time comeback to score in the 91st and 94th minutes and practically snatch the Joan Gamper trophy from the hands of Boca Juniors.
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola used an entirely different squad from the one that player Wisla on Wednesday, with Rafa Marquez and Thierry Henry the only two players to start both games.
After a rather benign first half, both of them were substituted, but there was still no improvement in the tempo. Guardiola was a touch tentative with his substitutions, and Boca used this to their advantage with some smart changes that livened things up after the hour mark.
The Argentina giants deservedly drew first blood through Lucas Viatri in the 72nd minute. The 21-year-old midfielder took advantage of a mix-up in the Barca defence to slot the ball past a paralyzed Pinto.
The hosts had been pedestrian until then, and faced with turning the match around, Guardiola brought on Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Samuel Eto'o before the match kicked-off again.
The effects were there to be seen as the two diminutive midfielders took charge, and it was all Barcelona in the final fifteen minutes with Boca trying to hang on.
It looked like they just about had when Iniesta failed to finish after a superb individual move in the 90th minutem, but then came the five minutes of injury time, much to the pleasure of the 72,000 fans in the stadium.
A superb 91st minute corner from Xavi was met by Carles Puyol's head, and the ball was in the back of the net before anyone else could move.
Boca almost went back into the lead from the restart, but Pinto was off his line superbly to deny Nery Cardozo. It looked like it would go to penalties, but if visitors were looking ahead, they did not know what was in store.
As the game inched towards the 95th minute, Xavi - who had been insipirational since he had come on - sent in a tempting delivery from the right, and a certain Samuel Eto'o was in the right place at the right time to clinch a dramatic winner, and secure the annual Joan Gamper trophy for Barcelona.
Pep Guardiola's perfect pre-season continues, while Boca did not know what had hit them.
